Weighing Terminology and Definitions
Accuracy – The degree to which a measurement relates to its actual, or true, value.
Maximum Capacity – The maximum weight that can be measured with a particular scale. Always select a scale with slightly more capacity that the items being weighed. Keep in mind that the higher the scale capacity, the lower the resolution (typically).
Repeatability/Precision – The scale’s ability to show consistent results under the same conditions.
Reproduceability – The scale’s ability to show consistent results under changed conditions
Resolution/Scale Division/Scale Interval – On electronic and digital scales, this is the smallest change change in mass that corresponds to a change in displayed value.
